Diplomatic Efforts on for Strengthening India’s Stand On Kashmir
The Minister for External Affairs Shrimati Sushma Swaraj in a written statement in reply to a starred question laid on the Table of the Rajya Sabha today said that in the wake of the death of Hizb ul Mujahideen Commander and terrorist Burhan Wani in an encounter on July 8, 2016, senior functionaries of Government of Pakistan briefed in Islamabad envoys of several prominent countries - including the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council namely China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States of America - and international organizations such as European Union, Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and Association of South East Asian Countries (ASEAN). Senior Government of Pakistan officials also apparently addressed letters to the Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN), the President of the UN Security Council, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and the Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), urging the international community to address the alleged human rights violations by Indian authorities during protests in Jammu and Kashmir since July 8.
Government has completely and unequivocally rejected in entirety all such actions and statements by Pakistan regarding Jammu & Kashmir, which is an integral and inalienable part of India. It has stressed that glorification of terrorists is unacceptable and Pakistan must immediately stop supporting cross-border terrorism & infiltration and desist from making any further attempts to interfere in India’s internal affairs.
Government has reached out to other countries to counter the Pakistani propaganda by stressing the aforementioned aspects. It has also been emphasized to our international interlocutors that Indian security forces exercised extraordinary restraint, as evident in injury to over 3780 security personnel in mob attacks during violent protests in Jammu & Kashmir. Government has also put across forcefully that the people of Jammu & Kashmir are Indian citizens, and that Government is fully conscious of its responsibilities towards them.
